Choosing Photographer vs Developer Mode

ManskiPort runs in two modes. Here’s what each one actually does differently so you can pick the right one from the start.

ManskiPort ships with two modes. The mode you pick changes the terminology, the admin menu, and which portal sections are shown to clients. It doesn’t change the underlying data structure – you can switch modes without losing data.

Photographer Mode

Terminology: Sessions, Galleries, Deliverables, Print Shop.

Use this if you:

  • Shoot photos professionally (weddings, portraits, commercial)
  • Need proofing galleries where clients can select images
  • Want to sell prints or digital downloads directly through the portal
  • Have repeating session types (mini sessions, full sessions, etc.)

In this mode, the admin dashboard shows Sessions instead of Projects. Galleries are a first-class feature. Session Types let you template out your most common packages. The client portal homepage shows upcoming sessions and gallery access.

Developer Mode

Terminology: Projects, Files, Assets, Milestones.

Use this if you:

  • Build websites or do agency-style creative work
  • Manage ongoing retainers or project-based work
  • Need clients to upload files or approve deliverables
  • Track project status and billing schedules

In this mode, Projects replace Sessions. The portal shows project status, a billing schedule, action items, and file uploads. Galleries still exist but aren’t the focus.

Can I switch later?

Yes. Go to Portal Foundation > Mode and change it. The switch is instant. Your data stays. The admin menu and client portal update immediately to reflect the new mode.

If you shoot photos AND do web work, pick the one that describes most of your clients. You can still use the other mode’s features – they’re just de-emphasized in the UI.
