Troubleshooting: Installation Issues

Most installation issues come down to three things: hosting environment, plugin conflicts, or missing requirements. Here’s how to diagnose each.

Error: “The package could not be installed”

This usually means your hosting server can’t write to the wp-content/plugins/ directory. Check file permissions. The plugins folder should be 755 and files inside should be 644. If you’re on managed hosting, contact your host – they sometimes restrict plugin uploads for security reasons and need to be asked to allow it.

Plugin activates but admin menu doesn’t appear

This can happen if:

• You’re logged in as a user who doesn’t have the manage_options capability. ManskiPort only shows to administrators.
• There’s a caching plugin aggressively caching admin pages. Clear all caches and try again.
• A plugin conflict is causing a PHP error on activation. Check your PHP error log.

Usually a PHP memory or timeout error. ManskiPort requires at least 128MB PHP memory. Check your wp-config.php for WP_MEMORY_LIMIT and increase it if needed. Add this line if it’s not there:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');

Setup wizard doesn’t load

Make sure you’re running WordPress 6.0+ and PHP 7.4+. If you’re below those, the plugin won’t run correctly. Your hosting control panel will show your PHP version. If you need to upgrade PHP, ask your host – it’s usually a one-click operation in cPanel.

License key says “Invalid”

See the License Troubleshooting doc. The most common cause is a typo in the key or a server that can’t reach the license endpoint.
