Bill Pay, PayPal, Coupons, and Gift Cards

Understand how portal billing works, how PayPal is used, and how coupons and gift cards affect client payments.

Mankai’s billing layer records and presents payments inside the portal while using PayPal for online payment capture in the current billing flows reviewed here.

Client Billing Views

The billing area can render differently for projects and sessions, but both flows show totals, paid amounts, remaining balance, and minimum due.

PayPal

When PayPal credentials are configured, Mankai can create and capture PayPal orders from the portal billing experience and from eligible booking flows. Captured payments are written into the payment post type with provider and transaction metadata.

Coupons

Coupons are stored with:

  • Code
  • Discount percentage
  • What the coupon applies to
  • Maximum uses
  • Optional assigned user
  • Active state

Mankai validates usage limits and assigned-user rules before allowing the coupon to apply.

Gift Cards

Gift cards are tracked with original value, current balance, code, recipient email, optional bound user, transaction ID, activation date, and usage history.

Clients can add a gift card to their account wallet and, where supported, apply it toward a project or session balance. Mankai records that as a payment entry and updates the remaining gift card balance.

Good Billing Habits

  • Always test PayPal in sandbox before switching to live mode.
  • Keep payment notes clear for manual payments.
  • Use coupons intentionally. Do not create coupon sprawl.
  • Check remaining balances after applying gift cards or external payments.
